Say hi to Rupert, the most handsome koala sporting cute shorts and a charming bow tie! He does look dapper with his suspenders, doesn't he?
When I first started designing crochet patterns for my long-legged amigurumi animals, my goal was to create a whole collection of different animals, all wearing different clothes and accessories, all in the same size, so you could mix and match the patterns and create your own unique versions.
So far I have a bunny in a hoodie, a monkey ballerina, a cat in shorts, a teddy bear in a dress, a giraffe with a scarf, and a panda with a bow. And now a koala in shorts and a bow tie. And plans for a dozen more. Now I just have to find the time to bring them all to life.
If you want to make your koala look exactly like mine, here's what you'll need:
- Yarn. I used DROPS Muskat, a DK weight cotton yarn, 100 m (109 yd) / 50 g (1.76 oz). You will need about 35 g of light gray (61 light taupe), 3 g of dark gray (24 taupe), 11 g of white (18 white), 9 g of dark blue (13 navy blue), and 2 g of red yarn (81 clay).
- 2.50 - 3.00 mm crochet hook (US size 2/C - 3/D).
- Polyester fiberfill, wool, etc. for stuffing.
- 9 mm (3/8") safety eyes or buttons, beads, felt, etc.
- Two 12 mm (1/2”) buttons.
- Yarn needle, scissors, stitch marker.
You can pick up a copy of the pattern on ETSY, RAVELRY or KRISTITULLUS.COM.
