In today's post, I will show you a simple way to add hair or fur to your crocheted dolls and animals. Like the mane and tail of this donkey and lion. for example.
I usually use yarn that is the same or similar weight (i.e. thickness) to the one I used to crochet the rest of the toy, but if you want to make it look more realistic, use finer yarn for the hair.
Tip! Because of the way the yarn is attached, you will have two strands attached to each stitch. But if you want to make the hair thicker, you can add more than one strand of yarn around each stitch, especially if using finer yarn.
1. Cut pieces of yarn twice as long as you want the hair to be.
Tip! I like to wrap the yarn around my fingers, a piece of cardboard, or a book so I can cut a bunch of strands at once.

2. Take a strand of yarn (or two or three) and fold it in half. Insert the hook under a stitch of your crocheted piece and grab the center with the hook.

3. Draw the yarn under the stitch, so you'll have a small loop. And then use your hook to draw both yarn tails through the loop.

4. Grab the yarn tails and draw the loop tight.

And even though it might not seem like it, it's actually a pretty secure way to attach yarn without having to make a knot, because pulling on the yarn will tighten the loop, keeping it securely in place.
